America’s Power Urges MISO’s Board of Directors to Approve New Affiliate Sector

Washington, DC – Today, MISO’s Advisory Committee voted in favor of a proposal to create a new “Affiliate” sector, which would provide the organization with unique market perspectives regarding reliability, cost allocation, resource availability, and long-term planning. Two-thirds of the nation’s coal fleet resides in ISO/RTO markets, and MISO holds the largest coal fleet with nearly 57,000 MW of fuel-secure generation which is important given the coal fleet’s unique role in helping to maintain an affordable, reliable and resilient electric grid.

America’s Power issued the following statement by Michelle Bloodworth, President and CEO:

“We thank the Advisory Committee for recognizing the need to have all stakeholders interests represented at the table within MISO. The nation’s coal fleet helps maintain the reliability and resilience of the electricity grid, produces affordable electricity, contributes to fuel diversity, and provides fuel security.

As the energy industry continues to evolve, key players like the Lignite Energy Council, America’s Power, and others who are involved in coal generated electricity need to remain engaged in MISO’s market discussions. We urge MISO’s Board of Directors to support the Affiliate sector and ensure all energy stakeholders have a voice.”
