More than 500 state leaders visit Speedway to learn how coal keeps electricity affordable, reliable and increasingly clean
WASHINGTON – An ACCCE-sponsored event featuring JR Motorsports NASCAR drivers Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Cole Whitt drew more than 500 state leaders, delegates and elected officials from across the country at the Charlotte Motor Speedway this week. Tuesday’s event provided an opportunity for people to speak with the drivers and visit ACCCE’s mobile classroom to learn about how coal provides affordable and reliable electricity to millions of American families and businesses.
“People came from all over the country to learn about how coal is the driving force of America’s energy future,” said Evan Tracey, senior vice president for communications of ACCCE. “Coal, like NASCAR, is a part of who we are as Americans. We are excited about continuing to work with one of America’s most successful sports teams to bring people our message about how coal keeps electricity affordable, reliable and increasingly clean.”
The Charlotte Motor Speedway event is part of ACCCE’s sponsorship of the NASCAR team JR Motorsports, the management company and racing operation for Dale Earnhardt, Jr. During the event, people who depend on the coal industry – from miners to small business owners – were able to share their stories with community leaders. ACCCE will continue to travel to NASCAR races this fall and participate in events with the team’s drivers Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Cole Whitt.
“Bringing people together in Dale, Jr.’s hometown was a great way to help inform and educate people about opportunities to power with clean coal,” said Joe Mattes, vice president of marketing & licensing at JR Motorsports.
