Denver, CO – The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) today issued this statement in response to the Western Governors Association (WGA) recent call for a national energy plan. The plan addresses the country’s energy infrastructure and economy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions:

“The western governors’ call for a national energy plan demonstrates their leadership and foresight regarding responsible energy policy for this nation’s future.

“Specifically, the WGA is supporting a national solution that would help the country move aggressively to develop clean energy resources that include carbon capture and storage technology for fossil fuels.

“The governors’ plan recognizes the critical role that advanced technologies to capture and store carbon from coal and other fossil-fuel generating facilities will play in meeting the challenge of reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions while also promoting energy independence and ensuring access to affordable, reliable energy.

“We support the western governors in calling on Congress to fund important clean coal technology research, development and deployment as means to invest in America’s energy future.

“These investments will not only promote energy independence and access to affordable energy for American consumers, but also will create jobs at a time when the domestic economy needs it most. In that regard, ACCCE applauds the timeliness of the governors’ actions.”

About ACCCE The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) is a non-profit, non-partisan partnership of companies involved in producing electricity from coal. Because coal is America’s most abundant energy resource, ACCCE supports energy policies that balance coal’s vital role in meeting our country’s growing need for affordable and reliable electricity with the need to protect the environment. ACCCE also advocates for the development and deployment of advanced clean coal technologies that will produce electricity with near-zero emissions. Headquartered in Alexandria, VA, ACCCE has more than 40 members that represent more than $190 billion in annual revenues and employ more than 360,000 Americans.
